SCUBA Diving

Last Summer I decided to spend my free time in class, so I finished my advanced open water class with Beach Cities, then signed up for an acclerated program through Liburdi's Scuba Center. There I went through the Rescue class, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Instructor Development. On September 30 and October 1st, I took the PADI Instructor Examination, and passed!!! So I am now a Padi Open Water Instructor, OWSI-173369.

In February, I got my letter that I had certified 25 students, so I sent in my applications for specialties, and now I am a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, MSDT-173369. I can teach specialty classes in the following areas: Boat, Deep, Drift, Nitrox, Night, Peak Performance Bouyancy, DAN O2 provider, Navigation, and Photo. I now have Drysuit, Search and Recovery, Wreck, Naturalist, Multilevel, Project Aware, Aware Coral Reef, and I am working on Aware Fish Identification and rebreathers.

SAN NICHOLAS ISLAND - December 2001, My brother Matt flew down to join me on a trip out to this outer island for some lobster hunting. Here are the first set of pictures from my brother's topside camera. Underwater pictures coming soon.

LAGUNA - Most of our diving is off the coast near Laguna Beach, occasionally venturing out to Catalina Island. Here are some pictures from a recent night dive off the beach in laguna. For the first dive of 2000, Erik and I spent an afternoon at Moss Point.

Summer 2000: Now that Erik is certified, and Matt is living down here, we can dive more!!! Here are some recent dives to Shaw's Cove, Crescent Bay, Moss Point, Wood's Cove, Wood's Cove again, and Diver's Cove. Here are some more dives in: Shaw's Cove, Diver's Cove, Diver's Cove again, and South Crescent Bay. While not actually Laguna, Big Corona is just up the coast.

SAN DIEGO - Erik and I tried San Diego. I say tried, because we tried to find the La Jolla canyon, and missed... Here are some pictures anyway...

Second trip was a success. Two great dives. Pictures coming soon...

March 24th, 2001: We got to dive the Yukon, a 366 foot long Canadian Destroyer Escort. Awesome dives!!!! Pictures here.

CATALINA - So far I have done two dive trips to catalina with my camera, so here are the pictures from the first trip from May 1999, and the second trip in October, 1999.

Another easy way to see catalina is to ride over on the Flyer out of newport harbor, and dive in the Casino Point dive park. It has a wide variety of things to see, including several wrecks, kelp, and depths from 0 to 95 feet. Here is one trip in June 2000.

March 2000: back to catalina, this time on a boat, the Pacific Dream. Pictures are here!

Summer 2000: more trips to catalina. The first on the Bottom Scratcher, and the next on the Second Stage.

September 2000: A group trip to Casino Point, and another trip out on the Pacific Dream. We love that boat!

GRENADA - The sailing trip from St. Lucia to Grenada in the Carribean provided three outstanding dives. I did not have an underwater camera though. I do have some pictures of the sailing.

BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS - The October 1998 trip, to the British Virgin Islands, was the proving ground for my camera, a Nikonos IV-A. The pictures came out very well for my first time!

COZUMEL #1 - Sometimes we get to go on real diving trips too. In April 1998, Dion and I went to Cozumel, Mexico to do her open-water checkout dives and enjoy a week of drift diving!!!! Here are the first set of pics. [more pictures scanned in soon...]

MONTEREY - While up in Monterey for a conference in June, 1999, I met my brother for a morning dive in the Monterey bay. Here are my first attempts at underwater macro...

BIMINI (BAHAMAS) - We spent the last week of June, 1999, on a small Island called Bimini, in the western Bahamas. We took tons of underwater pictures, so here is the first batch of scans.

COZUMEL #2 - Once again we are drawn to the lovely island of Cozumel. We spent a week there from November 7th thru November 14th. Came home with a suitcase full of great pics. Check em out!!
