Recent Position of my Truck!!
This uses a GPS feeding a TNC (a modem with some smarts) transmitting via ham radio. It then bounces around a few hilltops, eventually being picked up be a gateway to the internet. A server in Florida collects all the reports, and provides a web interface to mapblast showing the last heard postion. If I have the radio off for more than 8 hours, the server will not show my location. For more info on this system, called APRS [Automatic Position Reporting System], check out www.aprs.net. I have pictures and a description of my truck here.
If you don't mind java, here is a realtime feed for california showing all of us whackos!
An alternate site for the maps can be found Here.
A neat new link for a weather radar image.
